DIY Or Do It Yourself Christmas Crafts And Gifts
When it comes to diy or do it yourself Christmas crafts and gifts, two things quickly come to mind. As a bonus, they are one of the many things that you can do with your children to make the Christmas holidays a lot more fun. Most children love the idea of creating things and are naturally more creative. How about you? Do you love creating and crafting things? If so, take a look at these two easy and simple ideas.
DIY or Do It Yourself Christmas Craft And Gift Idea #1: Homemade Christmas Ornaments
You can often find boxes of old seemingly worthless jewelry in second hand stores, garage or yard sales and they do not cost much. If you look around your own home, you will probably find quite a number of old jewelry pieces that are broken and can't be used for anything else.
So here's my idea. With some jewelry wire or thin string, thread together various beads and bobbles to make a 5 inch long loop, twist it around and knot it up. Do the same for two more such loops and leave some string to spare so that it can then be hung on the tree.
Listen, just let your creativity flow with this. Remember, this is also fun. Now mix and match the color of the beads you are using. You can even string them up to trail around your tree. You can embellish or decorate them with larger pendants. They will really add the festive look to your tree. You can also give these ornaments to family and friends as gifts. Say for instance if your grand daughter or niece loves purple, string her purple pendant into her Christmas decoration and I am sure she will treasure and save it for many Christmas holidays to come.
DIY Or Do It Yourself Christmas Craft And Gift Idea #2: Make Your Own Fire Starters
Okay, here's another idea. This is also an excellent way to reuse old potpourri and old candles. For this you are going to need candle wax or paraffin. You can also use those used candles that don't have wicks anymore. You can buy wicks or retrieve them from old candles if you like. The best way to make wicks is to dip cotton twine into your melted wax and cool it. You can reuse your potpourri that has lost its scent or you can use clean dry pine cones. You also need muffin or cup cake tin. Simply melt wax in an old container in a saucepan filled with water. While the wax is melting, fill your cup cake tin with potpourri or set in a pine cone in each of the compartments. Pour wax over each of them ensuring that the wax settles right to the bottom. When the wax starts to cool down, add a 1.5" wick near the center. Let the candle harden.
Again creativity is the essence. You can add different colors, cinnamon sticks, dried flowers, or scented oils into the cake tin containing the wax. If you like, you can also add sea salt so that it looks frosty, but you must sprinkle the glitter before the fire starter sets.
As gifts for your loved ones or friends, place your ornaments and fire starters into pretty gift baskets you can find cheaply at thrift or second hand stores... then wrap them with some transparent color cellophane. They will definitely be appreciated and your Christmas crafts and gifts will surely be a hit this season.
